GMAC Financial Services said on Monday its Residential Capital unit had agreed to sell its European mortgage assets and businesses to affiliates of hedge fund and private equity firm Fortress Investment Group (FIG.N).

GMAC effectively will exit the European mortgage market after this deal and some other transactions are completed.
